About Us

Who is Xmarx?

Xmarx was started by two guys with who had been looking for for model buildings for a Battletech table. At the time there were very few of these available and most of them weren't very good. We kit bashed plastic model kits to make our our own buildings. We were aware of the process ILM used on the original Star Wars so we gave it a shot. When we had a couple of buildings were happy with we hatched a plan to make duplicates of them by using them as masters to make silicone molds. And began selling them on eBay, Xmarx was born.

Later we discovered 3d printing and got our hands on a trial version of a CAD program. This was 2002 and 3d printing resolution was poor but the future potential was obvious.

In 2004, I moved out of the state and for a brief time Xmarx was closed. A year or so later, once I got settled and with the blessing of my friend, I reopened Xmarx alone.

All of that to say Xmarx is a one-man show. My name is Brian. I am a middle aged balding nerd who enjoys hiding in his basement playing with little plastic toys…

I am the artist, web developer, mold designer, resin pourer, book keeper, maintenance man and janitor. Xmarx is my second job. Sometimes Xmarx gets ignored so that I can focus on other responsibilities.

Thank you for your interest in my models, I'm always eager to find ways to improve my work so constructive criticism is always welcome.

I have a standing policy that if someone shares an idea with me that I use, then the first casting of the model is theirs free. The Armored train, Subterranean hanger and the LRM turret were customer submissions. If you have an idea for something you'd like to see, I want to hear about it!
